🌱 Our Approach

A school where
children feel
truly at home.

Little Roots Montessori was founded in 2012 by Ms. Adaeze Williams, an AMI-certified Montessori directress who believed that Birmingham's children deserved an environment as thoughtful and intentional as the children themselves. Twelve years later, we've grown into a school that families drive across the city to attend — and we're still small enough that every teacher knows every child's name.

Our classrooms are carefully prepared environments filled with natural materials, living plants, and Montessori work that invites a child to discover, repeat, and master at their own natural rhythm. We don't rush. We don't compare. We trust the child.

"The secret of good teaching is to regard the child's intelligence as a fertile field in which seeds may be sown, to grow under the heat of flaming imagination."

🏡 Our Space

A prepared environment
for every kind of learning.

The Montessori environment is not a backdrop — it is the teacher. Every shelf, every material, every corner of our school has been thoughtfully designed for the child who will use it.

🪴
Living Classroom
Real plants, a seasonal nature table, a class pet, and living things to observe and care for throughout the year.
🌳
Garden & Outdoor Space
A dedicated outdoor classroom with raised garden beds, a mud kitchen, climbing structure, and space to simply be.

Montessori Materials
Authentic AMI-approved Montessori materials — wooden, beautiful, purposeful. Nothing plastic. Nothing digital. Nothing that does the work for the child.
🎨
Art & Creative Studio
A dedicated art space stocked with real artist materials — watercolors, clay, charcoal, and natural objects. Process over product, always.
👩‍🏫 Our Teachers

Teachers who chose
this work on purpose.

Every teacher at Little Roots holds an AMI or AMS Montessori credential and has completed additional training in early childhood development. These are not babysitters. These are skilled, passionate professionals.

💛 Parent Stories

What families say
after their first year.

★★★★★

"We toured seven schools before visiting Little Roots. The moment we walked in we knew. Our son — who had been struggling with transitions — walked in on his first day and didn't look back. Eighteen months later he reads, writes, and has a genuine sense of who he is. Ms. Adaeze changed our family."

The Johnson Family
Malik, Primary Program · Year 2
★★★★★

"I was skeptical about Montessori at first — I didn't understand how a child could learn to read without direct instruction. My daughter proved me completely wrong. By the end of her first Primary year she was reading chapter books and doing double-digit addition. All because she wanted to."

👩‍👧
Danielle M.
Zoe, Kindergarten Year
★★★★★

"Little Roots is a community, not just a school. We have had dinner with three other Little Roots families this month. Our kids play together on weekends. Ms. Tamika texts us updates about our son's day. I never expected to feel this supported as a parent."
